Somethings are just different in the land of Oz...

Though there are many similarities between America and Australia, some things are just plain different.  You may witness the differences in a particularly unusual turn of phrase.  You might here an Aussie angrily say, "I'm really getting the sh*ts." At first, you'll look at them oddly and silently try to figure out why they chose to announce such a thing.  Eventually, you'll add the evidence up in your head (1) they didn't get up running for the bathroom, and (2) they remain angry, and you'll figure out this saying is the equivalent to an American saying, "I'm really getting pissed."  Once you know this fact, you'll still have to try not to laugh at the Aussies as they angrily announce their periodic cases of "the shits" because you just can't help but think of diarrhea every time they say this.

Yet, life goes on in the country that not your own just as it would back home. You live, you learn, you cope.  Somethings are the same and somethings are different.  You will walk down the aisles of the grocery store and marvel at how similar yet different things seem to be.  That is all part of daily life, in the world turned upside down.

Dear Readers,
Please amuse yourself with photographic evidence of cereal differences between America and Oz. Cheers.

Are there any orange pumpkins in Oz?

Sorry, everyone.  I have been awful at updated my blog lately.  It's not like I have any great excuse - just when your days are filled with work you often come home and relax and forget about the things that used to occupy your time, like blogging.  Or you think of it, and think, "yes, I should really write a new blog..." but as quickly as the thought has come into your head you have pushed it aside to be completed at a later time.

It's October, which means it is fall at home and Halloween is quickly approaching.  Halloween being one of my favorite holidays - I find this time wearing on me a bit and making me homesick.  I was able to buy some candy corn (a strictly American candy for those of you not already aware) at Sugar Fix which sells American candy.  This little candy has brought me great happiness.

To be honest, I am becoming concerned over the state of available pumpkins to carve here in Australia.  For some odd reason all the pumpkins here is Oz appear to be green.  Go figure.  I haven't given up yet, and will continue to search for an orange pumpkin.

Still planning my costume, and trying to figure out a way to make this Halloween great despite being 15,000 miles away from home and the people that truly realize what a fabulous holiday Halloween is.
